On June 20, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering and Environment at Hanoi Metropolitan University organized a scientific workshop titled “Applied Science – Opportunities and Challenges.” The workshop attracted the participation of numerous experts, scientists, lecturers, businesses, and students. This event was part of a series of scientific and technological activities aimed at promoting innovation, enhancing training quality, and strengthening the connection between the university and real-life production and societal needs.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Bui Quoc Hoan emphasized: “Applied science plays a crucial role in solving practical problems, contributing to improving competitiveness and ensuring sustainable development of society.” The workshop served as a forum for researchers and policymakers to exchange ideas, share results, experiences, and trends in implementing highly applicable research projects.

The workshop presentations centered on urgent and practical issues such as applied science in education, environmental management, information technology, urban governance, and public health. Many reports presented by research groups both within and outside the university highlighted effective models of school–enterprise collaboration, technology transfer, and innovation in training methods linked to hands-on experience and real-life applications.
In addition to the opportunities discussed, the workshop also identified several challenges, including: the lack of incentive mechanisms for applied research, the gap between academic teaching and societal needs, and difficulties in accessing financial and human resources for innovation. The delegates reached a consensus that for applied science to truly be effective, there must be close coordination between universities, businesses, and state management agencies in developing policies and creating an environment conducive to research and the implementation of applied products.
