Looking back through history, May 18 carries profound political and social significance, originating from the event on May 18, 1963, when President Hồ Chí Minh attended and delivered a speech at the First National Congress of the Vietnam Association for the Dissemination of Science and Technology. There, he affirmed that those engaged in science “must strive to widely disseminate their scientific and technical knowledge among the working people” in order to improve people’s lives. In remembrance of President Hồ Chí Minh’s teachings, May 18 was officially designated by the 13th National Assembly in 2013 as Vietnam Science and Technology Day. By 2025, under the Law on Science, Technology, and Innovation, May 18 was officially renamed Vietnam Science, Technology, and Innovation Day.

This change in name also reflects recognition of the increasingly central role of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in national development. Through historical ups and downs, these fields have made increasingly visible contributions to sustainable economic growth, improved labor productivity, enhanced product quality, and strengthened Vietnam’s competitive position on the international stage. Scientific achievements are no longer confined to laboratories; they have spread deeply into everyday life, creating powerful momentum for the country’s modernization.

Fully aware of its mission as the Capital’s only public university, Hanoi Metropolitan University consistently regards science, technology, and digital transformation as strategic levers for improving educational quality and developing human resources to serve the growth of Hanoi and the nation. In response to this meaningful commemorative day, the University encourages all departments to proactively integrate the spirit of innovation into their professional activities while launching practical emulation movements to honor individuals and collectives with outstanding contributions. Through this series of activities, HNMU aspires to further spread awareness, inspire pride in Vietnamese intellect, and ignite a passion for creative labor in every staff member, lecturer, and especially students—the future masters of the nation in the digital era.
