Promoting international cooperation: Hanoi Metropolitan University expands cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic

On the morning of July 22, 2026, Hanoi Metropolitan University held an important working session with the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, aiming to promote bilateral educational cooperation between the two sides.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of Hanoi Metropolitan University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Cuong – President of the University, together with members of the delegation including: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Trung – Head of the Department of Postgraduate Studies; Dr. Dinh Thi Kim Thuong – Head of the Department of Science and Technology Management and International Cooperation; Dr. Dao Truong Thanh – Head of the Department of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs; and M.A. Pham Ngoc Bang – Director of the Center for Professional Training and Competency Assessment. Representing the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic were Mr. Dai Lattanaphayvanh – Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, together with Mr. Saiyyan Chanthaviwat, Mr. Khamphong Lueangkathi, Mr. Phoungern Vilavong, and Mr. Khemphet Saiymany, representatives of functional units under the Ministry.

Overview of the meeting

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Cuong, President of Hanoi Metropolitan University, exchanged with Mr. Dai Lattanaphayvanh, Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, on the University’s scholarship program for Lao students.

Hanoi Metropolitan University is a public higher education institution under the People’s Committee of Hanoi, with a long-standing tradition in teacher education and training. Currently, the University offers one doctoral-level program, four master’s-level programs, and 36 undergraduate programs, with its scale continuously expanding and quality constantly improving. In particular, the University’s outstanding strength lies in teacher training at all educational levels, providing high-quality human resources for the education sector of Hanoi and the country, and making significant contributions to the fundamental and comprehensive reform of Vietnamese educatiAt the meeting, the two sides held extensive discussions on cooperation orientations in the fields of education and training. A notable highlight was Hanoi Metropolitan University’s official announcement of a scholarship program providing 40 scholarships for Lao students, including 10 scholarships for master’s programs and 30 scholarships for undergraduate programs. This is a practical initiative to strengthen sustainable educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos while affirming the University’s commitment to supporting human resource development for Laos.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Cuong, President of Hanoi Metropolitan University, presented a commemorative gift to the representative of the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos.

In addition to the scholarship program, the two sides agreed to expand cooperation in training and professional development for Lao teachers; transfer advanced educational models; and organize STEM and STEAM programs to enhance professional capacity, innovate teaching methods, and develop creative thinking among students. The outcomes of the meeting have opened up prospects for deeper cooperation between Hanoi Metropolitan University and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos. With its strengths in teacher education, the University can support the improvement of teacher quality, development of training programs, and transfer of educational technologies. The two sides also aim to promote lecturer and student exchanges, scientific research collaboration, and international seminars, thereby contributing to strengthening the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
