PhD Candidate Hoang Thi Thu Phuong Successfully Defends Her Doctoral Dissertation

Attending the defense ceremony were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan – Vice Rector of Hanoi Metropolitan University; leaders of the University’s affiliated units; scientists, lecturers, PhD candidates, colleagues, and representatives of the family of PhD candidate Hoang Thi Thu Phuong. Her two academic supervisors were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Bich Hien and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hong.
According to the program, the Dissertation Defense Ceremony included the following activities: announcement of the decision to establish the Dissertation Defense Committee, verification of defense eligibility, presentation of research findings, reviews by the reviewers, academic discussion, and voting on the evaluation of the dissertation.

At the ceremony, PhD candidate Hoang Thi Thu Phuong presented the main findings of her dissertation, entitled “Policies for Motivating Lecturers at Public Universities in Vietnam”.

Following the presentation, the PhD candidate provided explanations regarding relevant issues and responded to questions from the reviewers and members of the Committee concerning the scientific issues addressed in the dissertation.

According to the Committee’s assessment, policy research is a challenging field that requires PhD candidates to possess not only a solid theoretical foundation but also the ability to approach, analyze, and address complex issues arising from practice. Throughout the dissertation process, PhD candidate Hoang Thi Thu Phuong made considerable efforts to gradually clarify new issues related to policies for motivating lecturers at public universities in Vietnam. The Committee members also acknowledged the originality of the research topic, noting that it does not duplicate existing studies; the selected research methods were appropriate, with a scientific and modern approach. These factors contributed to the rigor and enhanced the scientific value of the research.

After listening to the PhD candidate’s presentation of the research findings and responses to the reviewers’ questions, the Dissertation Defense Committee convened and highly appreciated the research results and the presentation of the research topic, affirming the dissertation’s scientific and practical value. On behalf of the Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan – Chairman of the Dissertation Defense Committee – announced that all 7 out of 7 Committee members unanimously approved the PhD candidate’s research results and recommended that the training institution recognize Hoang Thi Thu Phuong as having earned the doctoral degree in Educational Management.
Representing the training institution, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Cuong – Rector of Hanoi Metropolitan University – congratulated the PhD candidate on her successful defense and expressed his hope that Hoang Thi Thu Phuong would apply the research findings to her professional practice at her unit and further enhance the quality of her work.
On this occasion, PhD candidate Hoang Thi Thu Phuong expressed her gratitude to the leaders and colleagues of Hanoi Metropolitan University, members of the Dissertation Defense Committee, her academic supervisors, colleagues, friends, and especially her family for their continued support, encouragement, motivation, and favorable conditions that enabled her to successfully defend her dissertation and earn her doctoral degree.
