Meeting and Working Session with Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Khuong

On the afternoon of June 24, Hanoi Metropolitan University hosted a meeting and working session with Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Khuong from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore—one of the most esteemed scholars with extensive research experience and notable contributions in the fields of economics and public policy.

Professor Vu Minh Khuong shared his perspectives on economic development and national reform in general, with particular emphasis on Hanoi.
In his capacity as a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Group during the 2016–2021 term, as well as a member of the National Advisory Council on Science and Technology, Professor Vu Minh Khuong has made significant contributions to key national policies, thereby promoting sustainable development and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy.
During the working session, Professor Khuong shared his perspectives on economic development and national reform in general, with a particular focus on Hanoi. Additionally, he offered strategic advice and policy recommendations for the development of Hanoi Metropolitan University, proposing orientations that align with the growth of the capital city. He also emphasized strategies for developing science and technology, increasing international publications, building AI and big data laboratories, and discussed other matters such as organizing a 2026 academic conference and fostering cooperation with universities in Singapore.

Sharing experiences in science and technology development in Singapore, Professor Vu Minh Khuong suggested that in order to increase both the quantity and quality of international publications by faculty members at Hanoi Metropolitan University, the University should consider inviting editors from reputable international journals to support the development of academic publications. These editors could provide clear guidance on publication processes tailored to the University’s research strengths.
Regarding the 2026 conference theme, the University could organize a conference titled:
“Forecasting Hanoi’s Development Toward 2045” – focusing on research, projections, and policy consultation for Hanoi’s development across various sectors such as local governance, transportation, urban planning, environment, and culture.
Articles to be published in international journals should focus on:
Assessments of current conditions, key challenges, and policy recommendations for Hanoi;
Modernization experiences from fast-developing countries and cities such as Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, and Tokyo;
Capturing global trends to propose solutions that accelerate Hanoi’s development by 2045;
Critical issues facing Hanoi, including wealth disparity, identifying vulnerable and low-income groups, traffic congestion, and other major urban challenges.
