Information on the National Scientific Conference “Literature and Contemporary Life”

In order to create an academic forum for the exchange of scholarly issues, as well as to reflect on, assess, and orient the development of literature within the flow of the times, Hanoi Metropolitan University, in collaboration with the Institute of Literature – Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, organizes a National Scientific Conference themed “Literature and Contemporary Life.” The conference will take place over one day – November 28, 2025 (Friday) – at Hanoi Metropolitan University (No. 98 Duong Quang Ham, Nghia Do, Hanoi).

The conference focuses on discussing four major groups of contemporary literary issues, including: Literature and contemporary social issues; Literature and contemporary human beings; The reception and dissemination of literature in social life; and Innovation in literary creation – theory – criticism. The papers address manifestations of literature in response to global issues such as social inequality, the environment and climate change, migration crises, ethnic conflicts, and epidemics; the role of literature in shaping social awareness; expressions of spiritual life and crises of modern humans; portrayals of young people; reading culture in the new context; contemporary literary criticism; preservation of literary heritage; literature teaching in schools; as well as new genre trends, stylistic approaches, and the interaction between literature and cinema, music, and visual arts.

The Conference Organizing Committee received approximately 138 papers from researchers, lecturers, and interested scholars nationwide. After the peer-review and evaluation process, 76 papers were selected for publication in the Conference Proceedings.

In addition to the co-organization by Hanoi Metropolitan University and the Institute of Literature – Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the conference features the participation of many distinguished guests, researchers, and writers, including writer Bao Ninh, writer Nguyen Viet Ha, and writer Nguyen Binh Phuong – Vice President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association and Editor-in-Chief of Quan doi Nhan dan Literature and Arts Magazine.

The conference also welcomes numerous contributing authors and representatives from universities across the country, such as: Hanoi National University of Education 1, Hanoi National University of Education 2, Tay Bac University, Tan Trao University, Dai Nam University, Hoa Lu University, Saigon University, Da Lat University, Can Tho University, and others.

With its large scale and the participation of many experts, writers, and researchers in literature and social sciences, the conference “Literature and Contemporary Life” not only provides a high-quality academic forum but also reflects the demand, interest, and efforts toward innovation among researchers, educators, and literary creators in response to the profound changes of contemporary life.
