II. Overview of the Faculty
1. Functions and Responsibilities
- Conduct research, provide education and training, professional development, and consultancy in the teacher education program in Physical Education and other disciplines in the fields of Physical Education and Sports, National Defense and Security.
- Assign and manage the teaching of courses undertaken by the Faculty's lecturers for other training programs of the University; establish partnerships and cooperate in education and scientific research with external educational institutions in the assigned fields.
- Responsibilities: The Faculty performs its duties in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and the Regulations on the Organization and Operation of Hanoi Metropolitan University.
2. History and Development of the Faculty
Khoa KHTT & SK là bộ phận chức năng có nhiệm vụ đào tạo hệ đại học các ngành Khoa KHTT&SK, có lịch sử xây dựng và trưởng thành được gắn liền với sự phát triển chung của trường Cao đẳng Sư phạm Hà Nội trước đây, nay là Trường Đại học Thủ đô Hà Nội.
The Faculty of Sports Science and Health is an academic unit responsible for undergraduate education in its specialized fields. Its history and development are closely associated with the overall development of Hanoi College of Education, formerly known as Hanoi College of Education and now Hanoi Metropolitan University.
The Faculty originated from the Faculty of Music – Fine Arts – Physical Education and later developed into the Faculty of Physical Education and Arts. In response to its expanded responsibilities and the new scale of the Faculty within Hanoi Metropolitan University, on June 29, 2017, the Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Sports Science and Health, with a focus on professionalizing training in Physical Education, meeting the growing demand for community health improvement and contributing to enhancing the physical stature of the Vietnamese people. The Faculty's training programs have consistently responded to the needs of society in general and, in particular, to the educational development needs of Hanoi – a capital with a thousand-year history of civilization and culture. The Faculty has trained generations of teachers with strong professional expertise and solid pedagogical skills who are currently working at schools across all educational levels in Hanoi and throughout the country. Many graduates of the Faculty have gone on to become educational administrators at district and provincial levels, as well as specialists undertaking important professional responsibilities at the Ministry of Education and Training and other institutions.
3. Bachelor of Physical Education Teacher Education Program
- The program trains graduates with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education, providing them with theoretical knowledge and practical competencies to teach Physical Education at general education schools. Students acquire foundational knowledge relevant to the discipline and develop the capacity to pursue advanced professional knowledge. They are equipped with fundamental knowledge in teacher education and physical education and sports activities, as well as theories and methods related to common sports. Students also master the procedures, methods, and principles of teaching and sports training, together with practical knowledge of school-based Physical Education activities.
- The program equips students with the academic foundation necessary for continuous professional development in response to changes in the practical requirements of Physical Education at different levels of education. Students develop competencies in organizing and managing school-based physical education and sports activities, implementing training programs, conducting teaching activities, and organizing assessment and evaluation of course content. Graduates possess university-level qualifications and are capable of effectively implementing Physical Education programs at different levels within the national education system, while being well prepared to meet the requirements of educational reform.

+ Along with the development of Hanoi and the country as a whole, there is a growing demand for university graduates in Physical Education and Sports, particularly in Physical Education teacher education. After graduation, students can work as Physical Education teachers at general education schools across all educational levels.
+ n addition, graduates can pursue careers at sports training centers, athlete training centers, and organizations involved in physical development and health promotion, such as fitness and wellness centers, gyms, and children's life-skills centers focusing on physical development. Graduates may also work in community health and physical well-being services, contributing to the development of society and the country.
