Overview of the Working Session

On the afternoon of February 3, 2026, at Meeting Room A, Hanoi Metropolitan University (HNMU) held a working session with University of Huddersfield (United Kingdom) to exchange and discuss potential cooperation opportunities in training, particularly in English language teaching and the development of international programs. 

Representing the University of Huddersfield were Mr. Wayne Bailey, Head of the School of Education, and Mr. James Leadbetter, Regional Manager for Southeast Asia. On behalf of Hanoi Metropolitan University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tuân, Vice President; Dr. Đinh Thị Kim Thương, Head of the Department of Science, Technology Management and Development Cooperation; Dr. Vương Thị Hải Yến, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; M.A. Trịnh Phan Thị Phong Lan, Vice Director of the Hanoi Studies and International Training Institute; along with leaders and lecturers from the English Language and English Pedagogy programs.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tuân, Vice President of Hanoi Metropolitan University, chaired the working session.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tuân chaired the session and delivered the opening remarks, providing an overview of the University’s formation and development. He emphasized the vital role of international cooperation in the University’s development strategy, especially in the context of higher education integration and digital transformation. The University leadership expressed its hope to establish practical and effective collaborative programs aligned with current educational trends and training needs.

Mr. Wayne Bailey introduced the scale and academic strengths of the University of Huddersfield. The University offers a wide range of programs from primary and secondary education to undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. One of its notable strengths lies in training and developing leadership in education and educational management, contributing to improvements in education systems across various countries. In terms of academic reputation, the University of Huddersfield is currently ranked 257th globally in the field of Education and 521st in overall subject rankings, affirming its international standing and training quality. The University has established long-term partnerships with several Vietnamese universities and expressed its desire to further expand cooperation, including with Hanoi Metropolitan University.

During the discussion session, delegates explored opportunities for developing dual-degree programs, short-term training courses, professional workshops, and joint scientific research projects, aiming to enhance training quality in line with international standards.

The welcoming ceremony for the delegation from University of Huddersfield, United Kingdom, hosted by Hanoi Metropolitan University, concluded successfully and effectively.

The meeting concluded in an open, constructive, and cooperative atmosphere. Both sides agreed to continue exchanging information and further specify collaborative initiatives following the session. The successful working visit with the University of Huddersfield reaffirmed Hanoi Metropolitan University’s commitment to expanding international cooperation. It also laid an important foundation for improving the quality of English Language, English Pedagogy, and other internationally oriented training programs, meeting the demands of educational integration and development in the new era.
