Introduction to the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology

General Information

    The Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology is an academic unit of Hanoi Metropolitan University, responsible for education, scientific research, and applications in the fields of Applied Mathematics, Information Technology, and Information Technology Education. The Faculty continuously innovates its training programs following an application-oriented approach, integrating theory with practice to meet the demand for high-quality human resources in the era of digital transformation.

    Currently, the Faculty offers three undergraduate programs:

• Applied Mathematics

• Information Technology 

• Information Technology

    The training programs are designed to develop professional competencies, equipping students with solid disciplinary knowledge, practical skills, research capabilities, innovative thinking, and adaptability to modern working environments. In addition to education, the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology actively implements scientific research activities, professional workshops, and collaborations with enterprises and educational institutions to enhance training quality, providing students with opportunities to engage with professional practice while developing both technical and soft skills. With a team of highly qualified and dedicated lecturers and a dynamic learning environment, the Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology aims to train graduates with strong professional qualities, competencies, and global integration capabilities, meeting the developmental needs of society in the age of technology and the digital economy.

The Faculty currently has 16 lecturers in the following areas:

+ Applied Mathematics: 07 lecturers, including 01 Associate Professor, 02 Master's degree holders and PhD candidates, and 04 Master's degree holders.

+ Computer Science: 05 lecturers, including 01 PhD and 04 Master's degree holders.

+ Information Technology: 04 lecturers, including 01 PhD, 01 Master's degree holder and PhD candidate, and 02 Master's degree holders.

The Applied Mathematics program trains graduates with a strong foundation in mathematics, probability and statistics, mathematical modeling, optimization, data analysis, and modern computational methods. The curriculum is designed with an application-oriented approach, enabling students to apply mathematical tools to solve practical problems in economics, technology, data science, and artificial intelligence. Students are equipped with logical thinking abilities, analytical and data-processing skills, model-building competencies, and problem-solving capabilities across various fields. In addition to disciplinary knowledge, the program emphasizes the development of research skills, technology application skills, and adaptability to modern working environments. Upon graduation, students may pursue careers in data analysis, statistics, applied research, information technology, finance and banking, education, or continue their studies and research at higher levels.

The Information Technology program trains human resources with professional knowledge and practical skills in the field of digital technology. Students acquire knowledge in programming, software development, databases, computer networks, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and modern technologies that meet the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The curriculum emphasizes a balance between theory and practice, providing opportunities for students to participate in academic projects, scientific research, and internships at enterprises. Through these experiences, students develop creative thinking, teamwork skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to a constantly evolving technological environment. Upon graduation, students may work as software developers, software testers, system administrators, database administrators, IT specialists, data analysts, or continue advanced study and research in information technology.

The Information Technology Education program prepares Informatics teachers with strong political qualities, professional ethics, disciplinary expertise, and pedagogical competencies that meet the requirements of educational innovation in the era of digital transformation. The curriculum combines computer science, information technology, pedagogical studies, and modern teaching methodologies. Students are equipped with knowledge of programming, databases, computer networks, educational technology, artificial intelligence, digital learning resource design, and methods for teaching Informatics in schools. At the same time, students develop pedagogical skills through practical training, teaching observations, and internships at educational institutions. Upon graduation, students may work in general education schools, educational centers, training institutions, and related organizations.

4. Functions and Responsibilities

    - The Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology performs the following functions and responsibilities: 

Education, research, and application in the disciplines of Applied Mathematics, Information Technology, and Information Technology Education in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and the Regulations on the Organization and Operation of Hanoi Metropolitan University.

    - Collaboration in training and professional development programs within and outside the University in the fields of Applied Mathematics and Information Technology.

 

5. Faculty Activities
- The Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology is responsible for training high-quality human resources in Applied Mathematics, Information Technology, and Information Technology Education. The Faculty continuously updates and innovates its curricula following an application-oriented approach, closely aligned with societal needs and digital transformation trends.

In addition to educational activities, the Faculty actively promotes scientific research among lecturers and students through research projects, scientific conferences, professional seminars, and academic activities. At the same time, the Faculty strengthens cooperation with enterprises, educational institutions, and research institutes to enhance training quality and expand opportunities for internships, professional experience, and employment for students.
