2. Training Program Objectives

The program aims to train Social Work bachelor's degree holders with a career-oriented, applied focus who demonstrate political integrity and professional ethics. Graduates will have the ability to identify, intervene in, and resolve social issues at the individual, group, and community levels; the capacity to conduct independent and collaborative scientific research; and critical and creative thinking skills to teach, research, and work in fields related to social work services at both domestic and international agencies and organizations.

Additionally, graduates will be capable of entrepreneurship, addressing emerging real-world social issues, and adapting to a dynamic work environment. They will also possess self-directed learning capacity, personal and professional development skills, and a sense of responsibility and motivation for continuous learning and research to meet the evolving demands of society.

The program is delivered over 4 academic years. Each year consists of two main semesters, with each main semester including 15 weeks of study and 3 weeks of examinations. In addition to the two main semesters, the university also offers an additional (summer) semester, allowing students to take extra courses, retake failed ones, or improve grades. Each additional semester includes at least 5 weeks of study and 1 week of exams. The minimum number of accumulated credits required to complete the program is 130 credits.

To be eligible for graduation, students must meet the Information Technology and Foreign Language learning outcomes as stipulated in the university’s regulations on learning outcomes (issued with Decision No. 1678/QĐ-ĐHĐTHN dated October 1, 2024, by the Rector of Hanoi Metropolitan University).

3. Career Opportunities in the Social Work Sector

After graduation, students can take on the following roles:

(i) Specialized civil servants, management officers at state administrative agencies;

(ii) Researchers, human resources staff, customer care, communications staff, project officers, project assistants, policy advocates, gender and equality officers, etc., at non-governmental organizations (NGOs);

(iii) Researchers, human resources and communications staff, at institutes, research centers, and agencies specializing in social sciences;

(iv) Social workers, counselors, caseworkers, human resources and communications staff, at social protection centers and social work service centers;

(v) Inclusion support staff, social workers at school social work offices, special education centers, hospital social work departments, psychological counseling centers, courts, etc.;

(vi) Psychological counselors, human resources staff, customer care, communications personnel, at industrial parks, export zones, businesses, and manufacturing/trading enterprises;

(vii) Lecturers at colleges, universities, and institutes after pursuing advanced academic degrees. 

The Social Work program has signed cooperation agreements with employers to enhance students' practical skills and support recruitment after graduation.

4. Opportunities for Further Study and Academic Advancement after Graduation

  • During their studies at Hanoi Metropolitan University, starting from the second academic year, Social Work students may apply to pursue a second major concurrently, such as Primary Education, English Language, Law, Information Technology, Tourism and Travel Service Management, or Hotel Management.

  • Students are eligible to receive annual academic scholarships, and those from policy beneficiary families are granted tuition fee exemptions or reductions in accordance with current regulations.

  • Graduates of the Social Work program can continue their postgraduate studies and research in the same major to enhance their qualifications at Hanoi Metropolitan University or at other institutions offering related disciplines (e.g., Educational Management, School Counseling, Special Education, Sociology), both domestically and internationally.

The Social Work program has signed cooperation agreements with employers to enhance students' practical competencies and support job placement after graduation.

5. 2025 Admission Information for the Social Work Major

  • Enrollment quota: 50 students

Admission subject combinations:

  • D01: Literature, Mathematics, English

  • C03: Literature, Mathematics, History

  • C04: Literature, Mathematics, Geography

  • C14: Literature, Mathematics, Civic Education – Economics and Law

👉 Admission scope: Nationwide

Method 1: Direct admission and priority admission in accordance with MOET regulations

✅ Method 2: Admission based on international foreign language proficiency certificates (level 3 or equivalent and above, valid within 2 years from the time of application), combined with high school graduation exam results. (Not applicable to the Physical Education major)

✅ Method 3: Admission based on Grade 12 high school academic records. (Not applicable to teacher training majors, except Physical Education)

✅ Method 4: Admission using the results of the national high school graduation exam

✅ Method 5: Admission based on the results of the competency assessment exam conducted by Hanoi National University of Education in 2025
